Not much is known about the outbreak in Chernarus...sometime after the 2009 civil war (estimated between 2012 and 2013) the locals became infected with some kind of biological agent.
Nearly a decade after the outbreak, the remnants of the Chernarus Republic's military defenses built The Wall across the region in an attempt to protect the few remaining survivors.
Constant threats lie behind the wall, scarcity of resources, hordes of zombies, wild animals and other hostile survivors, enemies of the Republic of Chernarus living in lawlessness roaming north of the wall.
